Disabled students extra help
You can apply for extra help during your studies if you have a disability or a specific learning difficulty. The Disability Advice Team at the University offer a full assessment service to help establish what support you will need during your time as a student.
Disabled Students’ Allowance
Disabled Students' Allowances are grants to help meet the extra costs of studying that students face, as a direct result of a disability or specific learning difficulty.
They are designed to help disabled students study on an equal basis with other students.
The allowances are paid on top of the standard student finance package and the amount you can get does not depend on your household income. The allowances do not have to be repaid.
The grant can be used to provide specialist equipment you need for studying, for example computer software, to provide a non-medical helper such as a note-taker or reader, or to cover extra travel costs you have to pay due to your disability.
In order to apply you need to complete application form DSA1.
For more information and to download a DSA application form enter 'DSA1' in the search box at www.direct.gov.uk
